“That’s what we really want. What we really want is to believe that our lives matter and that we actually make a difference in this world. You see, it’s out of that place of believing that we will dare to dreams our lives would be overflowing with happiness, peace-of-mind, and freedom. But there’s a problem. In times of change we are bombarded with layers of unexpected adversity and disappointments that blindside us.

Trust begins to break within ourselves, our relationships, and those we are supposed to be able to trust most.

But there is good news! There is hope, and there is healing that comes through connecting with the truth of your story, forgiveness, and lifting your head up -with the expectancy that your best is yet to come!” – Kim Peterson

If you find you are feeling the weight of the world may you walk a little lighter, stand a little taller, and breathe a little more easily as you take away a golden nugget or two implements in your own life right now.

If I can do it, so can you…

Interview with Mike Michalowicz: Exploring Racial Bias in Business

Interview with Mike Michalowicz: Exploring Racial Bias in Business

You may know Mike Michalowicz as the author of Fix This Next, Profit First, Clockwork, The Pumpkin Plan (and more).

You may know him from his weekly podcast, formerly called Entrepreneur Elevated…or you may be learning of him now, for the first time.

In any case, Mike and I shared the stage in the fall of 2019 at the Leading Edge Live women’s conference brought to you by Courtney Carol.

That’s when he invited me to be a guest on his podcast to talk about racial bias in the work place.

When we first recorded our conversation, we had no inclination that George Floyd’s tragic murder would happen just 3 weeks later.

That first interview never aired.

Everything was in flux (around the world) and the conversation needed to be different…as the names of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor were also still on our lips, and as were the names of so many other black Americans.

Interview with Mike Michalowicz: Exploring Racial Bias in Business

Last month in July, Mike’s podcast relaunched as – “Mike Up In Your Business”- and a second interview ensued.

Our conversation on racial bias in business was both thought provoking and productive.

I appreciated the real and raw nature of this candid conversation.

With each conversation I learn that the talk about race doesn’t need to be “hard”. When the people involved share common values and a goal of seeking to understand each other (the issues, concerns, challenges, hurt and pain) so that effective change can be implemented- it can be quite informational…and healing.

May this be healing for you, or someone you know as well.

Championing you on the inside and out, with love from The Coach’s Corner!

How to Stop the Comparison Game

How to Stop the Comparison Game

“You’d never be jealous of someone if you knew who you were. You would never want someone else’s gift if you knew why you were alive.” – Bill Johnson

What a riveting quote, right?

When you read it what comes to mind for you?

For me it was one of the most powerful, bold, and liberating quotes I had heard in a very long time.

I remember saying, “Did he really just say that?”

He did.

…Have you ever compared yourself to another woman?

I have.

It’s not a great feeling!

It’s from the chains of comparison that we unnecessarily elevate ourselves higher than we ought to -or condemn ourselves if we don’t feel like we are quite making the mark.

Comparison can lead to jealousy, resentment, bitterness and can land you in a place of false empowerment if you’re not careful.

We compare body shapes and our looks, cars, clothes, success, status…and skin color…as we are reminded by the reality of our current events locally and around the globe due to the fight for racial justice.

How to Stop the Comparison Game

Well, I was never comfortable in my own skin and grew up comparing myself to everyone. In my 30s I went to work doing my inner game soul work, knowing that comparison was the thief of joy, authentic confidence, a sense of personal empowerment and so much more.

It’s why I ❤️ that authentic identity is at the center of my body of work. …

With the honesty of this personal struggle, and as a personal brand/style consultant & life coach, what I know to be true is this: If you want to up level your personal and professional success, you must break the chains of #comparison.

Opening with a vulnerable story of how my jealously almost got the best of me, I was honored to speak about this topic at Bettina Carey’s Women’s Empowerment Summit earlier this month. Catch the replay above.

Be Uniquely Savvy: 7 Tips for Breaking Free From The Chains of Comparison is a game changer for those who want to create and live their authentic best while living their vision of success with purpose and meaning!

Take a listen and shoot me an email. Let me know your thoughts. Would love to learn where comparison is holding you back and help you dream and imagine what life could look like if you were…free!

Still on journey.

Don’t Underestimate Your Work From Home Wardrobe in COVID-19

Don’t Underestimate Your Work From Home Wardrobe in COVID-19

Hello Fave ladies.

Oh, the power of clothing!

What you wear matters and it’s about so.much.more. than simply looking good.

Did you know there is such a thing as the science of style and clothing?

Yep, it’s true. Look it up, it’s called enclothed cognition.

The key concept here is that there is a power in clothing and what we wear psychologically influences 1. Those with whom you interact and 2. You, the wearer

It has to do with the symbolism you attach to a particular garment, and how you feel when wearing it. How you perceive that item will absolutely impact your psychology, thus powerfully influence the choices you make cognitively and behaviorally.

I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Take for instance, how you feel when you put on your “WOW FACTOR” red dress and favorite fancy shoes! You likely feel like you can take on the world…you feel empowered and in charge, put together, and dare I say? A bit sexy to boot!

I bet you even feel a bit more confident and perhaps ready to take more risks than you would if you were simply wearing a tee shirt and a pair of weekend jeans.

Well…the science of style goes well beyond that even!

Did you know that research shows that when you dress more formally in a business setting, your abstract thinking actually increase by a couple of points.

Knowing this, you would likely benefit from dressing more professionally if you are negotiating a contract or working on a complex project that requires you to think outside of the box.

Research also says that when you look good, you perform better.

Take a listen to the video above with these principles in mind. Next consider your wardrobe choices and assess how what you’re wearing might be influencing your choices, thinking, and productivity levels as you “work from home”.

What might you need to add, change, modify, or create differently to help you bring your best self to your make-shift office?

…Remember, YOU are your brand and your wardrobe and appearance comprise your brand packaging. Just because you CAN wear whatever you want, doesn’t mean it’s actually serving you at optimal levels.

During this COVID-19 chapter, I say we need to pull out every tool in our success tool box to help us navigate this season of life to the best of our abilities. This includes the tools of self-care to healthy mental and physical wellness habits, to effective presentation skills for working online, to your using your wardrobe as a tool for optimal performance, confidence, and productivity.

The science of style helps us do just that.

Championing your confident breakthroughs on the inside and out so you can show up in a clear, focused, and powerful way -attracting more of what you really want in business and in life!Kim XO (Danielle, this should be my sign off signature on the piece for May as well. Thank you, Kim)

Is it Time to Expand, Redefined or Rebrand?

Is it Time to Expand, Redefined or Rebrand?

Fave Lifestyles

Hello beautiful ladies of FAVE!

Has this time of staying at home stirred in you a desire to elevate your style or brand such that when you emerge back out into the world you show up in a more clear, focused, and powerful way?

Time to redefine or rebrand “you as your brand?” Was the old normal not serving you?

THIS IS A PERFECT TIME TO REBRAND, REDEFINE, RECREATE & REBUILD!

Mark Cuban said this about a month ago (paraphrasing), “Companies will be defined by how they go through this global pandemic.” I agree.

You, as a person and a brand….will also be defined by how you act and engage with others throughout this global pandemic.

The bummer?

There are no do-overs. There are no second chance auditions. Collectively, we will (hopefully) never again have this kind of situation in our lifetime whereby we are pressed on all sides, feel the tension throughout the structural layers of society, and are forced to come face-to-face with our true selves in a way that we can “choose” to respond differently -and prove to self and others- “That’s not really who I am.”

YOU ARE YOUR BRAND.

The way you express your brand is through your choices & the way you (S)PEAK, (E)NGAGE, (L)OOK, and (L)IVE on a daily basis. How you choose to show up to #workfromhome, care for your friends and neighbors, comply with rules designed to keep you and others safe, and lead yourself and your families, team, and/or your company…matters.

Let’s not be so concerned about “getting back to normal”.

In many ways normal wasn’t serving us too well, but who had time to address it?

Let’s take this silver lining opportunity to take what was NOT working in business and in life, and purge not only our closets, but also the things that have kept us unhappy, unfulfilled or uncaring. Let’s take this once in a lifetime opportunity to rewrite the playbook, create new strategies and processes, and rebuild the ruins.

#IfNotNowWhen

What can we choose to create differently -right now?

Is it Time to Expand, Redefined or Rebrand?

*paid advertising

WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?

This is a perfect time to rebrand, redefine, recreate, and rebuild!
If you are ready to take a next level look at how to think about YOU as your brand and desire to create more meaning and purpose in your life, consider these few questions:

• Who am I?
• What are my strengths, values, unique brand promise of value, and my WHY?
• What am I passionate about?
• What’s my vision, or, when I think of my best life, how do I see my career, family, life?
• How do I want to dress to better communicate my value, expertise and trustworthiness?
• In what ways can I improve my confidence, clarity, communication skills, and impact?

Even since I’ve penned this article, I’ve expanded Uniquely Savvy’s brand, and it feels magnificently rewarding and fulfilling! If you’d like to have a conversation about how to rebrand, polish up your wardrobe for a fresh take on your “brand packaging” as we prepare to come out of quarantine, or simply say hello… please feel free to reach out anytime -now or in the future.

Championing your confident breakthroughs on the inside and out, be well, be safe & be your best self!

Navigating COVID-19: Dealing With Depression & Anxiety, What’s Gratitude Got to Do With It?

Navigating COVID-19: Dealing With Depression & Anxiety, What’s Gratitude Got to Do With It?

Hi ladies.

My name is Kim Peterson and this is my first VLOG/article within Fave, what an honor to be in community with you!

While I’m a coach, and not a licensed mental health provider, I wanted to share a game-changing skill and technique I learned for helping me process through spurts of feeling anxious during a time when we are still experiencing change and uncertainty. I’ve passed it along to my clients and thought to share with you too.

…Please extend grace, beautiful grace, to me as I’m divin’ right in from a place of vulnerability and personal experience on the topics of anxiety and depression.

By the time this video comes out, it will likely be about one month since I first created it; however, I believe it offers timeless value for anyone who may be struggling with how to process the roller coaster of emotions while navigating COVID-19 – and beyond.
Here are (4) Steps You Can Take To Embrace A Daily Practice of Gratitude:

  1. Acknowledge your reality
  2. Feel the emotion you are feeling vs. stuffing
  3. Ask yourself, “What do you need – right now?
  4. Find at least (1) thing for which to be grateful

*The Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available for everybody, 24/7. 1.800.273.TALK (8255)

Sharing from someone who used to be somewhat debilitated by anxiety and depression, take what makes sense and toss the rest.

Championing your confident breakthroughs on the inside and out, and insisting on H.O.P.E. in these times of change.
