I love stories, all our stories. Our wisdom and experience give life a depth and a richness of color that far exceeds the beauty of fall foliage. Through our stories, we share seeds of love, joy, peace, and hope, seeds that bear much fruit, seeds that will become a wonderful harvest one day.
Late last summer I got to hear my husband, Kurt, speak with a young man about the history of Monroe High School football. Yep, the history of our small town’s football program. Kurt was the Bearcats’ head coach for seven seasons. Early in their conversation, Kurt was asked about X’s and O’s, a question he quickly deflected in order to talk about his family, his coaching staff, school leadership, and the great young men who were part of his program. He talked earnestly about building character, about changing the culture of an entire school and community, about sharing great wins and heartbreaking losses.
As a coach, Kurt planted seeds every day in his classroom and on the practice field. Some came to fruition by game time; others didn’t grow and mature until long after the last whistle of the last game. Your seeds, too. Some seeds of love will bloom immediately. Some seeds of joy will develop slowly. Some seeds of peace and hope may not mature until long after we’ve gone home, left the job, said goodbye.
Plant seeds, cover them with prayer, water them with patience and understanding, and then wait for God to bring them to life. Insist on it. Insist on love. Insist on kindness. Insist on loving kindness.
We’re in this together, friends! Together we can be transforming examples of God’s saving grace. Together our words of loving kindness can inspire, motivate, and bring about meaningful change.

Before my father died, he reminded me that Mom had asked me to write a book. At the time the boys were in college, and the notion of writing was unfathomable. Writers write books. By the time my boys were adults, I’d run out of excuses. I was also at that age when I could pause and reflect.
Fruit of My Spirit: Reframing Life in God’s Grace was my first publishing endeavor. My second was Signs in Life: Finding Direction in Our Travels with God. Both are collections of stories that tell of God’s love and faithfulness. Both tell of His remarkable grace and mercy.
When not writing, I serve as the Client Service Coordinator for The Planner’s Edge, an investment advisory firm in Washington state. I’m active in my church, serving on the Leadership Team and gathering with a wonderful group of ladies to study and giggle over lattes and chocolate. On my desk is a rock with the words “Choose Joy!” etched in it. It’s my inspiration for each day. As an author, it is my hope that my own words might share that joy we find together as children of God.
With Him, it can be so.
