Volunteering has long been proven to be beneficial to communities and to the health and well-being of the person donating their time. So, if you love volunteering why not take the practice to another country? There are countless opportunities to volunteer all over the world that will not only enrich those communities but also can offer a unique travel experience for those will to do some work. If you are interested in exploring an overseas opportunity where do you start?

There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer abroad, from farm workers to more skilled positions there is no shortage of volunteers needed. There are many organizations that connect volunteers with opportunities.  Connecting with those organizations can make you research much easier. Spend a good amount of time looking into the organizations, the opportunities they offer and make sure it is a good fit. These volunteer organizations can help you determine location, length of assignment, cost to you and what cause will interest you.

Where in the world do you want to go? There are opportunities all over the world and organizations that can take you anywhere. If you have a specific region in mind you can search for groups that serve those areas. Or if location does not matter you can search based on length or assignment.

How long do you want to volunteer for? Assignments can last weeks to months to years. Whether you have a week or a year there will be an assignment for you. When determining the length you need to consider how much you can afford both monetarily and in time away from your life.

You may think that volunteering abroad cost nothing more than travel, but often there are fees involved. Costs and what are covered vary between opportunities but some of the costs are associated with things like trainings, lodging, meals, local transportation, and supplies. When doing your research make sure you are clear on the costs that you will be responsible for paying.

Whether you want to teach in a village or monitor sea turtles there are many interesting opportunities available. When choosing what you want to do think about the expertise you can bring to the position and what kind of job will keep you excited to be working for free for the duration of your assignment.

No matter what your ideal position, location and duration volunteering is rewarding. Combining that with seeing the world and volunteering can be once in a lifetime experience that enriches your life and helps others.

Karen Rae

I was becoming an empty nester, a woman of a more interesting age and in transition. Sound familiar? I was at that place where we question our purpose, value, and worth and what in the world are we going to do with the rest of our lives.

I noticed women have a huge hunger to belong to a community of women where they can feel safe, share openly from their heart and have other women to do life with! This is why I created my Fave Lifestyles.

Fave is for the woman who wants to call Fave her community of women who support, uplift, and make her feel better about herself. I want to create a place where we help her answer life's questions and just do life together!
