How To Thrive Through Menopause

With the average lifespan of a woman being 84 years old (and growing longer every day),
menopause no longer means you’re ‘over the hill.’ Too often, that’s what society would have
you think, but if you have the right information and game plan, menopause can just be the
milestone that opens the way for the second half of your life! If you’re looking for how to thrive
through menopause, and not just survive it? Keep reading!

Don’t Just Survive; Thrive!

Believe it or not, you really can not just survive menopause, but thrive during this very unique
change of life. Menopause doesn’t have to be hush-hush and explanatory for every bad mood a
woman has, much to the dismay of society who’d have you believe going through menopause
might as well put you with one foot in the grave. That’s just not the case these days, and
because it’s a natural part of life, we can look at it as a milestone to be thankful for and to find
the joy in. Let’s face it, there are some perks!

And while many women see this time as a period of loss in their lives— loss of fertility, loss of
choices for their body’s behaviors and more, it can also be a time where we feel tremendously
empowered as the wise, experienced women we are.

Is It That Time?

What exactly does menopause look like? It actually looks very different than society would have
you believe. Yes, there are hormonal fluctuations that can really take a toll on your body and
your lifestyle, but there are also so many things we can do to combat some of those, and not all
are pharmacological.

We don’t all turn into easy-to-trigger beasts who are just looking to pounce on the next
unsuspecting person, and many of us find that some of the physical benefits are actually
welcomed. For instance, as menopause comes into play, breast cancer risks go down for many
women who were high-risk before simply because estrogen doesn’t taunt them as a cancer fuel
as it did before menopause.

Still, there are some characteristics that are common, such as:

  • Irregular periods
  • Sweating/Hot Flashes
  • Regular breast tenderness
  • Weight changes
  • Skin/Hair changes
  • Changes in sex drive/Vaginal dryness
  • Irritability and anxiety.

None of these mean you have to be miserable and you can talk to your doctor (conventional or
holistic), about ways you can battle some of the common symptoms while your body blooms
into the new you. Don’t be afraid of menopause just because you worry, you’ll experience some
or all of these symptoms. Believe it or not, a lot of us found menopause to be not much more
than the end of our periods and some slight differences in our bodies over the course of the
change. Mindset makes a big difference too!

Mindset Matters!

A big thing to remember physiologically speaking is that during menopause, your body’s trying
to keep up the production of hormones it’s been producing for nearly all your adult life. Your
ovaries become less and less able to keep up with estrogen production, and the result isn’t just
in egg quality and fertility. Hormone fluctuations really affect the brain, as it’s your body’s boss,
and that can make a tremendous impact on your mood, emotions and mindset.

This is why it’s very important to remember to do all you can to keep your brain healthy and
happy through these hormonal changes of menopause. Keep hydrated so your brain can do
what it needs to do to keep you balanced, and if insomnia plagues you (as it can), do all you can
to rest. By rest, we mean get restorative sleep. Turn the air down as low as you need it, get the
white noise fan, take the melatonin, drink the tea, listen to the meditation, use the essential
oils…do whatever you need to do so your body and brain can get restorative sleep. When your
brain is better balanced because it’s hydrated and rested, it’s better able to balance the effects
of those fluctuations in hormone levels. That means it’s able to do a better job of helping you
thrive; despite all the changes your body is undergoing.

Menopause doesn’t have to be a scary or sad change of life, and if you look at it as another
milestone you’ve made in this great adventure of life. Know that you’re not alone, and that
there’s still so much more amazingness to come.

I was becoming an empty nester, a woman of a more interesting age and in transition. Sound familiar? I was at that place where we question our purpose, value, and worth and what in the world are we going to do with the rest of our lives.

I noticed women have a huge hunger to belong to a community of women where they can feel safe, share openly from their heart and have other women to do life with! This is why I created my Fave Lifestyles.

Fave is for the woman who wants to call Fave her community of women who support, uplift, and make her feel better about herself. I want to create a place where we help her answer life's questions and just do life together!
