Have you heard the term zero click search yet? If not, it is a matter of time. Zero click
searches are shaking up the world of SEO practices and will continue to grow. So,
today we want to give you a quick overview about what a zero click search is and how it
will impact traffic to your website.
What is a Zero Click Search?
When a user searches on Google they will probably not look much further than the first
page of results. Being ranked on the first page used to be the #1 priority of websites. It
is still vitally important to rank in a top position in google searches because you are not
only competing with other websites, you are competing with zero-click search results.
A zero-click search is one where the answer is displayed directly at the top of a Google
search result. This means that the searcher does not have to click over to any website
to get the answer they are looking for.
What Kind of Searches Result in Zero Click Results?
There are three main search types that end up as zero-click searches:
- Direction-oriented searches: Search results for places, locations, and
businesses. These are almost always local and often carry tags like "near
me" or "open now."
- Database-oriented searches: Search results for dates, times, currency,
math, or any other small snippet of information that can be quickly answered
- Dictionary-oriented searches: Search results for names, places, things, or
anything that can be answered by a dictionary, thesaurus, or encyclopedia.
How to Appear in Zero Click Results
To appear in the zero click results you want to be in the featured snippet spot. This is
also called the 0 rank as it appears above the #1 slot. Google picks snippets of
information from its indexed websites to provide instant answers to a search. When a
user performs a search, they see the answer to the search above the list of sites. As a
result, users do not have to click a page to find the answer, they can read it in the
snippet box. If they want more info than what is listed in the snippet the site is listed
below and often that is what they click through too. If you can create local pages and
answer to queries from the local audience in your content, you too can make your web
pages more clickable and accessible.
